Our Mission (if we choose to accept it)

We are curious how communication via technology effects relationships with others compared to everyday face-to-face communication. We have explored this by conducting a survey of 25 people asking what percent of their communication is done by a given method. Various opinions have been taken on the issue. Some believe that technology has made communication easier and that it improves relationships while others believe that there is something missing in technological forms of communication and that it actually hurts relationships. Sadly, there are also people that are apathetic about this topic and don't fully consider the implications it has for our society.
From our survey, we can tell that this issue is very important in our society today. Technological communication is rapidly increasing, and in some cases it is overtaking communication face-to-face. We must consider how this is affecting our society.

Technology does significantly affect how we communicate with people today. I think instant messaging and e-mail and the widespread use of phones have led to a breakdown of face to face communication. Communicating one on one face to face with people is not so prevalent and I believe it has led to people having more aquantances than friends due to the lack of personal contact.

Hey Dave and Paul,
I was wondering, did you find any significant differences between males and females?

Technology does provide more ways for people to communicate with others. It is really good, but like all things, it does have the power to be abused. For instance Facebook is a nice way to chat with friends you haven't seen in a while, but it shouldn't be your only means of communication with them. Or cellphones, awesome things, but people shouldn't spend every minute on them. People should be able to regualate themselves with their use of technology as communication.
